Donate Supplies to the Heartly House

Starting October 29, 2009 - Ending November 22, 2009

Join the THS Book Club as they help out the Heartly House, during the month of November. 

Join the THS Book Club as they help out the Heartly House, during the month of November. Heartly House is an organization based in Frederick that helps out women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. We will be collecting sweat shirts and sweat pants, canned and boxed food, and old or broken cell phones and their chargers. Bring all items to the THS Library. Talk to Anna Kobetz, Maddy Borek, Lindsay Arnaout, or Elise Mekelburg if you have any questions. Have a Heart donate to the Heartly House!

First Honors Day Sale on Titan Spirit Wear – All students who received First Honors during the first term will be eligible for a 15% discount on all purchases on Tuesday, November 24 during the normal Tuesday store hours. All students who qualify must show their report cards in order to receive the discount. Only cash or checks (payable to THS Boosters) will be accepted.

Tuesday, November 24 – First Honors Day Sale – All students who received First Honors during the first term will be eligible for a 15% discount on all purchases that day. The store will be open during the normal Tuesday hours. All students who qualify must show their report cards in order to receive the discount.

Monday, December 7 – Staff Appreciation Day –
With the school closing 2 hours early that day all faculty and staff are invited to shop between 12:30 and 3 pm that day to receive a 15% discount on all items purchased. If a desired item is out of stock in the desired size we will be happy to order the requested item in the proper size with payment. The items will be delivered to the staff members when they arrive.

Saturday, December 12 –
Christmas Shopping Event – The school store will be open during the hours of 10 am and 2 pm to allow THS parents to shop in time for Christmas. (The Titan Thunder wrestling event is also that day)
Payment terms at all events are Cash or Personal Check (made payable to THS Boosters).

Sean Havern Selected to serve as a MD General Assembly Page

MD General Assembly Pages
Six Frederick County students have been selected to serve as pages, with one as alternate, for the Maryland General Assembly 2010 legislative session. All are high school seniors.

Sean Havern, Tuscarora High – While serving as student council treasurer, Sean is also Captain of the lacrosse team and co-captain of the wrestling team. He carries an impressive weighted grade point average of 3.87 and plans for completion of six AP courses by graduation. Sean works at Hollister’s.

Kathleen Crockett, Walkersville High – President of the school’s student council, Kathleen has earned numerous awards for academic excellence and has served as parliamentarian of the National Honor Society. Her extracurricular interests include varsity field hockey, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Academic Team and Civil Air Patrol. She has attended several leadership conferences and works for Southern Living at Home.
Jescinta Izevbigie, St. John’s Catholic Prep – A Maryland Distinguished Scholar, Jescinta is a member of the National Honor Society. Her extracurricular activities include serving as secretary/treasurer of the Student Government Association and co-captain of the Mock Trial team.
Caitlyn Leiter-Mason, Gov. Thomas Johnson High – Captain of the Forensics and Debate team, editor of the TJ Chronicle and member of the National Honor Society, Caitlyn will have taken eight AP courses by graduation. She carries a weighted grade point average of 4.6. Caitlyn’s extracurricular activities include the Frederick Interfaith Youth and the Frederick Democratic Party. She has attended several leadership conferences.
Catherine Stitely, Brunswick High – Distinguished Maryland Scholar and AP Scholar with Honors, Catherine is the executive officer of the senior class for student government. She has earned several academic, community service and attendance awards. She is a member of the lacrosse and indoor track teams and the National Honor Society. Catherine’s outside interests include the Youth Group at Holy Family Catholic Community and volunteering at numerous community events.
Alex Eckard, Linganore High will serve as an alternate.
Serving as a legislative page is a unique opportunity for students to learn firsthand about the workings of the legislative process in our state. Apportionment of pages, by county, is based on the census taken at the beginning of each decade. Maryland pages must be senior students at a public or private high school and must reside within the state.

HOBY Winner Kavonte' Duckett

Starting November 16, 2009 - Ending December 23, 2009

Congratulations to Kavonte' Duckett who has been selected as Tuscarora's HOBY representative. He will be attending the Maryland HOBY conference at Mount Saint Mary's University in May 2010. Samantha Helmold was named the alternate.

Congratulations to Kavonte' Duckett who has been selected as Tuscarora's HOBY representative. He will be attending the Maryland HOBY conference at Mount Saint Mary's University in May 2010. Samantha Helmold was named the alternate. Congratulations goes out to all the sophomores who completed the application and interview process.  Certainly, Tuscarora has exceptional leaders in the class of 2012!!

SCIENCE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:   Current JUNIORS, applications are now available for the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) internships at Ft. Detrick for next year.  Deadline for application is January 8.  An informational meeting will be held for interested students during the first week of December.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Mummert in A115 for application materials.
