I work with students in grades 9-12 with last names that begin with the letters I-M. All counselors will begin their senior conferences on September 14th. Parents of seniors should have received a letter this summer with a designated appointment time for their conference. I will be meeting with each student at the designated time and hope that a parent will be able to attend. We will discuss the transcript history and graduation requirements as well the college and scholarship application process.
Freshmen will meet for a brief guidance overview and then meet their counselor personally for a few minute during the next two months.
Sophomores will meet with their counselor in November and/or December to discuss their transcripts and outline their high school goals and post-secondary plans. Parents once again will have the opportunity to join us for this conference. You will be invited in a personal letter. Look for that in October.
Juniors will have the opportunity for an individual conference around registration time and they will receive a packet of information to remind them about testing and the college search process.
Ms. Biser and I also facillitate a Support Group for Grieving Students. Students attend a group meeting twice a month with other students who have experienced the loss of a parent, sibling or other significant person in their life. For more information, please contact Ms. Biser or me. Our meetings will begin in October and usually end in May just before graduation.
The Tight Titans are beginning the second year as a THS Club. We model our program after the nationally recognized Best Buddies organization. Student with different learning styles and intellectual abilities are paired up with others to help form friendships and improve social relationships during the school day. We will be involved with the Homecoming Parade, movie nights and many other activities. This year we have about 80 students involved in this club which is led by Caryn Healander, Heather Helmold and Jill Schumacher.
