THS has been invited to participate in a High School Longitudinal Study beginning in the fall of 2009 with the U S Department of Education (USDE) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The study will follow a cohort of ninth grade students as they progress through high school and enter postsecondary institutions or the work force. The goals of the study are to “assess achievement gains throughout high school and to understand students' choice, access, and persistence in courses, postsecondary education, and careers.” Emphasis will be placed on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The cohort will include 30 randomly selected students entering THS this fall.
